I thought Ansel Adams was an interesting photographer. I enjoy looking at pictures of the outdoors and I would like to capture images of things that people rarely have a chance to see in their lives. To do that, I would have to go to different places and have an idea of what I’m looking for in a photo. It seems like Adams put a lot of hard work into capturing the perfect picture and he would travel to many different areas to take pictures. He paid close attention to detail and used large-format cameras even though they were less convenient in terms of size, weight, set up time, cost, ect. I like talking pictures in black and white, I like when things have an “older” feel to them and black and white photos remind me of the early 1900’s. Adam’s photos were mainly produced in black and white and even though he experimented with color, he said he found it “distracting.” I particularly like the pictures of mountains and trees, it reminds me of the Oregon landscape. I would like to study Adam’s photography more and possibly walk around some of the land in Oregon and try to take similar photos. He was also able to capture facial expressions well and he took many photos with one person as the subject, and he/she was usually surrounded by nature. Adams also seemed very savvy on how to sell his photos to make money. His career extended for a period of 60 years and he experimented with different equipment along the way. He introduced new photography techniques and advocated the idea of visualization—where the final image is “seen” in the mind’s eye before the photo is taken.
